Our Pastoral Council and our Parish staff have been discussing the busyness of the lives of parishioners within our parish, and both groups have come to the conclusion that this busyness is a serious problem for those who are trying to practice their lives of faith. We see the consistent struggle of parishioners to choose between the demands of their lives and the attendance to gatherings at our parish church, most importantly to our weekly celebration of the Eucharist. When a child tells me in the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation that they have not come to mass because “their family has been too busy,” to me there seems to be something seriously wrong with this picture. We are living in a world today where the life of a Catholic no longer revolves around the life of their parish.
In order to more fully engage in worship and prayer in the busyness of our lives, St. Andrew by the Bay will be unveiling its new section of resources in the Narthex of Church called Spirituality on the Go. Our Spirituality on the Go stand will contain materials that you can use in the context of your busy lives. There will be books on tape, CD’s of prayer and praise, information on podcasts, and book selections from some of today and yesterday’s greatest Spiritual writers. We hope that this new endeavor will make it easier for you to carve out time to make spending moments with Jesus part of the busyness of your day. St. Andrew, pray for us. Fr Martin
